When starting in the salon industry is it better to work at Supercuts, or assist in an upper scale salon?

In my area, Supercuts has a bad reputation as being cheap and not good quality so maybe look for work in a smaller salon? Rather than somewhere like toni and guy, like a nice local one with a good reputation?

If you aren't qualified then all you'll be able to do is 'assist' but we all have to start somewhere! Some salons have their own training salon within-I did work experience before and every Tuesday the salon trained all their trainees!

As bad as it sounds, this industry is obviously based on image as well as skills so taking a job in a salon like supercuts may hinder you in the future! It's not being snobby, its being clever! When starting in the salon industry is it better to work at Supercuts, or assist in an upper scale salon?
Supercuts! Whatever they have told you, assisting means sweeping up hair, cleaning up stylists color bowls, shampooing clients, and doing laundry. Franchised salons are always the best way to start out. You'll be like a machine, constantly doing services. This is the fastest way to learn and you will get (better money for starters because you'll have tips) a clientele and loads of experience. So many stylists will tell you that they learned s much starting off in franchised salons. They are cheaper so they are always busy with new and all types of clients! When starting in the salon industry is it better to work at Supercuts, or assist in an upper scale salon?
Depends on what kind of career you are wanting. Salons like Supercuts always offer benefits (vacation, insurance) that other salons might not. You're almost guaranteed to make money right away because it's like an assembly line. Quantity of clients over quality of work. You will not learn anything because for the most part there is nobody there for the purpose of training you.

Assisting at the right salon does not mean you are everyone's maid! Look into the training program and find out how it works. Most upscale salons will train you extremely well because they have you working on their clients and obviously want you to do an excellent job. You will learn so much more this way! So many more opportunities will be available to you!

This business is all about constant learning. You will always learn more around highly successful, talented stylists! Not at Supercuts or any ';chain'; salon....they have cheap, bad reputations for a reason! Assisting might be more work to begin with but definitely worth it in the long run!

I have worked at a training salon and was shocked at how little beauty school actually teaches you! We basically had to re-train people
